Mr. Sameer Desai, the MD of Seagull was 18 even then. Full of aspirations and dreams, but zero knowledge of advertising, albeit, fascinated by every aspect of it. Seagull first ventured into events and activations. Sameer, alongwith his partners then, gave his heart and soul. But he was someone who was still learning to swim through an unchartered territory, and of course, he made mistakes. No, not in executing any task, but he perhaps failed to be money-minded and go for profits, rather than pay a tribute to his love for advertising. This failure resulted in his friends parting ways, on good terms of course. And it was this failure, that ignited a spark in Sameer, and he went on to deliver what nobody could believe was possible - successfully organisng a Bryan Adams Concert in Pune. Yes, those were the best days of his life.
Seagull Advertising takes the leap of faith, and then ventures into traditional advertising, the only form of advertising back then. And guess what, it starts creating history. It was almost as if Seagull had found an Alladin’s Magical Lamp. And so it had. The only difference was, Seagullites called it the box of ideas. The next 20 something years witnessed Seagull Advertising onboarding esteemed clients, adding impressive work to its portfolio, grabbing prestigious awards, and garnering praise from each and everyone it touched. But then,it did hit two roadblocks.
Print starts losing its importance. The audience and even brands took to digital media as their new favourite, and rightly so. After all, digital marketing brought with it an array of advantages. And soon Seagull realised it needed to evolve, and so it did. But then, that wasn’t the only challenge coming Seagull’s way. The lockdown shook the entire country. It would be an exaggeration to say Seagull Advertising wasn’t affected by it. It was. But then, it also knew, if you are flying high and you notice a dark cloud, you could only fly higher. Seagull Advertising stood the test of time, and emerged victorious in both - the COVID crisis and digital advertising.
