The Koli Community Brand Book documents the journey of Koli Fisherwomen in Mumbai shaped by six centuries of living by the sea, carrying knowledge through generations, and sustaining livelihoods through trust, hard work and deep expertise.
In addition, this book also brings forth the progress of the Koli fisherwomen, as they strengthen themselves through collective ownership, organisation, infrastructure, training, identity and market readiness through DPCL, with enabling support from Vrutti.
The book serves two clear purposes:
First, it is a proud record of what the Koli community, DPCL and Vrutti are building together: a milestone that deserves to be documented, celebrated and shared.
Second, it is a practical guide for other communities, producer companies, NGOs, funders and ecosystem partners who wish to build community-led brands with dignity, credibility and long-term value.
In doing so, the book hopes to demonstrate that a strong brand, when built around a community is not created from the outside. It is revealed, organised and lived.
